Soledad, Monterey County
Mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad was founded on October 9, 1791, the thirteenth of the California missions, in what was then a lonely stretch of the Salinas Valley. A restored chapel stands at the site, west of the present town. Soledad is the setting of the opening pages of Of Mice and Men, and the road to the west entrance of Pinnacles National Park begins here.
